Regional Passenger Rail Plans Pick Up Speed
With initial funding from Ohio’s Transportation Review Advisory Council (TRAC), the Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) is reviewing credentials and selecting a consultant for the next step in the development of the Ohio Hub passenger rail system. The job for the consultant will be Program-level Environmental Impact Studies (PEIS) to identify routes, station locations, and major capital projects (such as overpasses or bridges) that will be needed to upgrade existing freight rail tracks for faster passenger trains...more

Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Funded
for 2010
In a significant step toward the restoration and protection of Lake Erie, President Obama signed legislation that authorized $475 million for fiscal year 2010. Stormwater Workshop Focused on Green Infrastructure
At one time, people dealing with stormwater simply led it into pipes and sent it into the storm sewer system. Where stormwater and sanitary systems are combined, this could lead to flooding and release of untreated sewage into water ways. Black Swamp Conservancy-First in 2010

Thank you to the Black Swamp Conservancy. The agency was the first TMACOG member to renew membership for 2010. The Perrysburg-based conservancy works to conserve and protect natural and agricultural lands in northwest Ohio. Thank you for your continued support of TMACOG.

Member Highlight: Village of Risingsun

Risingsun Mayor Rick Whetsel is happy to report that a long-planned sewer update for the village of 600 people is almost complete. Planning for the new system began in 2006 with warnings from the Ohio EPA to shut down ancient septic systems and develop a water treatment program. Mayor Whetsel knew that the work was necessary. Most buildings in the village were built before 1950 and many before 1939. Before the new system, many houses shared both a well and a septic system with a neighbor ...more
