Portage River Basin Council Report

  • A nominating committee has been formed to review and nominate new leadership for the Portage River Basin Council in 2010. People interested in participating are invited to contact Elaine Moebius 419.241.9155 ext. 139.
  • The Education subcommittee of the council was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Ohio EPA’s Ohio Environmental Education Fund. The grant will support the Portage Student Congress which is a watershed-wide program involving students in water quality testing and publishing their results. New schools participating in the next congress include Fostoria St. Wendelin; Genoa, Woodville, and Lakota high schools; and Lakota Middle School. Wood and Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation Districts are strong supporters of the Portage Student Congress.
  • Elaine Moebius, TMACOG’s Portage River coordinator, is working on the final draft of a Watershed Action Plan for the watershed. Members of the Portage River Basin Council have provided review and comments as it was being created.
