Federal Funds Offered for Great Lakes Projects
Through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI), the federal administration has proposed up to $ 475 million for projects in the Great Lakes. Of that money, about $250 million would be grants through about 60 programs in 16 federal agencies. TMACOG is working with regional agencies and watershed groups in the area to identify projects that would fit the parameters of the grants. Possible projects include: support for the Maumee River Watershed Coordinator, the annual student water testing program Student Watershed Watch, Swan Creek Balanced Growth Plan, GIS inventory and septic system repair or replacement, and habitat restoration in the Wolf Creek area near Maumee Bay State Park.
Requests for Proposals for the fiscal year 2010 funds are expected in late August 2009, with anticipated October deadlines. For more information, contact Kurt Erichsen, 419.241.9155, ext. 126.
