Management of Water Utilities - Seminar for Local Officials

Mayors, clerks, board of public affairs members, council members, and administrators in villages and smaller communities are invited to a one-day seminar to learn about their responsibilities and resources for supplying safe drinking water and for wastewater treatment. Cost for the Sustainable and Responsible Management of Water Utilities workshop is $10. The workshop will be Saturday, February 20, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Owens Community College. (Snow date is February 27.) Attendees will take home a binder and CD which include reference materials, samples of records, information on how to keep and when to destroy records, public meeting regulations, and much more.

The seminar is sponsored by TMACOG. Training is provided by Ohio Rural Community Assistance Program, with financial support from Feller, Finch & Associates. The goal is to provide information to help municipalities operate and maintain water utilities, to plan for a sustainable future, and to avoid expensive problems. Attendees will be encouraged to participate and to share ideas and common experiences. Sessions will address management including legal requirements and personnel staffing; technical issues including roles of the utility operator and elected officials, and financial issues including budgeting and how to establish a rate structure.

Registration is online. The fee includes lunch and training materials. Registration is due by February 12, 2010. For more information contact Kurt Erichsen: 419.241.9155 ext. 126. Also see http://www.glrcap.org/ohio for more information about Ohio RCAP.
