Member Highlight: Village of Fayette
With the Village of Fayette’s recent decision to join TMACOG, all six villages in Fulton County are now TMACOG members. Fayette Village Administrator Amy S. Metz said, “Even though our community is small in stature, it is not small in challenges and opportunities. TMACOG is a living, breathing resource full of innovative ideas where similar experiences are valuable tools to formulate corrective actions and present opportunities. TMACOG offers a collaboration of wisdom and experience that would benefit any community, whether large and small.”
The Village of Fayette, with a population of about 1340, supports an elementary school and a high school. The local school district is currently evaluating bids for a wind turbine project. Village neighborhoods are arranged around the main intersection of State Route 66 and U.S. 20. The village center features the renovated Opera House which was one of the village’s original landmarks. The Opera House had fallen into disuse by the 1970s. At that time, the Fayette Community Fine Arts Council led a drive to acquire the structure and return it to its original usage. Their efforts have been successful. The Opera House is now home to the Fayette Artist Series. It is also used by Fayette’ Opera House Players, Archbold Community Theater, the Formerly Normal Players, and an all-county theater group.
The village maintains parkland within the village limits and is close to Harrison Lake State Park for camping, swimming, fishing, and boating. Villagers put on three annual festivals in the village parks: The Bull Thistle Festival, the Music Fest, and the Fayette Fall Fest.
