Check Your Walk Score

In some neighborhoods, residents can walk less than a mile to find groceries, a pharmacy, schools, and other amenities. In other places, a car is a necessity to access basic services. Two online resources are available to provide information on pedestrian access and safety anywhere in the U.S. Type an address at www.walkscore.com and find out resources within walking distance. If you type in two addresses (starting and ending points), you can learn how long the commute would take by foot, bicycle, bus, or car. The cost to drive is also included.

To find out how safe it is to walk in any particular area, try www.t4america.org/resources
/dangerousbydesign2011/map
. You will see the number of pedestrian fatalities between 2001 and 2009.

New Location in 2012

The Erie County location is conveniently located near the Ohio Turnpike and Route 2. Kalahari's newly expanded conference facility offers state-of-the-art technology and flexible exhibitor space to meet the needs of the conference and attendees. The 2012 Ohio Conference on Freight will be held Thursday and Friday, September 13 & 14. New Sidewalk Policy Under Consideration

In an on-going effort to improve safe options for pedestrians, the Pedestrian and Bikeways Committee of TMACOG has developed a regional sidewalk policy. As more communities look at “complete streets” strategies, the policy provides helpful advice for incorporating walking infrastructure (sidewalks and curb cuts). The policy has been prepared as a guide to best practices for the use of jurisdictions in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. It is not a law or regulation, and it is coordinated with other design documents...more
