208 Plan Approved by Environmental Council
Following input at a public meeting held May 7 and vote for approval at the Environmental Council meeting held May 23, the updated Areawide Water Quality Management Plan (the 208 Plan) will be presented to the TMACOG Board of Trustees for final approval Wednesday, June 19 at 1:30 p.m. If the updated 208 Plan is approved, it will be submitted to the states of Ohio and Michigan for inclusion in state-wide plans.
A major change to this update includes chapter six which discusses water quality impacts of drainage and runoff from agricultural lands and recommends best practices for agriculture, drainage, and habitat protection. The entire document can be reviewed here.
Communities in Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky, and Wood counties in Ohio and Bedford, Erie, and Whiteford townships of Monroe County, Michigan cooperate to maintain the 208 Plan to ensure that sewer infrastructure plans are coordinated and that we meet the standards of the Clean Water Act. Meetings have been held in all five counties and local changes and agreements have been consolidated in the update. For questions, contact Kurt Erichsen at 419.241.9155 ext. 126.
