TMACOG’s stormwater planner is available to help jurisdictions with a basic checkup of their stormwater procedures and to take some preventive measures.
A checkup lets a municipality know if they are meeting permit requirements. Most jurisdictions in the TMACOG region must satisfy National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits. To make sure that communities are doing everything by the book, TMACOG Stormwater Planner Kari Gerwin will review operations and make recommendations if they are needed. She said, “An evaluation of stormwater protocol tells a community whether they are meeting the requirements of the permit, but ultimately we all want to ensure the overall health of our water.” Ms. Gerwin has recently worked with the Village of Holland to evaluate their program.
A major component of municipal stormwater programs is annual employee training for good housekeeping and pollution prevention. To help jurisdictions meet permit requirements, TMACOG can do on-site training programs. Ms. Gerwin presents a program and reviews questions.
