TMACOG to Mentor Planning
Lucas and Wood counties in Ohio and parts of Monroe County in Michigan are part of the TMACOG Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). There are other MPOs serving population centers around the state. However, some regions are not currently part of any MPO. A pilot program to provide guidance to these regions is part of the federal transportation bill, MAP-21. In Ohio, ODOT has organized a two-year program beginning in July 2013 to build transportation planning expertise in those Ohio regions. TMACOG has been asked to be a mentoring agency for the Maumee Valley Planning Organization (MVPO). The MVPO includes the counties of Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Paulding and Williams, and the cities of Bryan, Napoleon, and Defiance. The new program is the Regional Transportation Planning Organization (RTPO) Pilot Program. Initial discussions were held in May and the planning process is underway. TMACOG may hire a new staff person to support the RTPO program activities.
