Major Planning Projects Nearing Completion
TMACOG’s long range transportation plan and the short range plan were both voted on and approved at the June 17 Board of Trustees meeting. The plans affect Lucas and Wood counties in Ohio and Bedford, Whiteford, and Erie townships in Monroe County, Michigan.
The “On the Move: 2015-2045 Transportation Plan” (2045 Plan) was developed over the last two years with significant public input and with the work of teams of stakeholders. It defines our region’s priorities and policies in regard to transportation. It is a financially constrained plan, weighing priorities against committed funds and funds that we reasonably expect to be available. In total, the plan includes 176 committed projects, 121 priority plan projects, and 33 reserve projects – spanning multiple transportation modes. The reserve projects are a pool of projects ready to go in case a priority project is delayed.
The short range plan is the Transportation Improvement Program (the TIP). It is a four-year schedule of construction and improvements that is updated in alternate years. In 2015 the new plan, the FY 2016-2019 TIP, was developed and approved by TMACOG committees and councils and the Board of Trustees.
The next step for the 2045 Plan will be presentation to the Federal Highway Administration. The TIP has been submitted to ODOT and is under review. Completion of the two plans is a significant milestone in the work of the TMACOG Transportation department. The approval of these plans fulfills a federal requirement and allows our region to continue receiving federal funds for transportation planning and construction.
