TIMS: Transportation Information Mapping System
Local governments and planners have free access to a recently updated data source from ODOT that is also free to the general public. The Transportation Information Mapping System (TIMS) is at www.gis.dot.state.oh.us/tims. The update to the system consolidated a variety of data sources in a single system. The information can be easily accessed and searched by smart phone.

TMACOG Planner Lisa Householder says, “It’s a very robust system. I’ve used TIMS quite a bit lately to download transportation data to use in my own mapping analysis. It also has environmental data.”

Data available on TIMS includes

Transportation Asset Inventories – ODOT facilities, airports, ports, transit systems, bridges and pavements, culverts, safety barriers, railroads and crossings, intermodal facilities, patrol outposts
Roadway Information – Road inventory, snow and ice priority routes, federal aid routes, etc.
Boundaries – Ohio Department of Transportation districts, cities, counties, metropolitan and regional planning organizations, state and congressional districts, townships, urban areas
Traffic Counts – Traffic stations, traffic segments, volumes, average daily travel
Transportation Projects – All construction projects since 2003, and all future projects with committed funding
Environmental Information – Wetlands, soil types, floodplain locations, ecological regions

Some jurisdictions in the TMACOG region have received training sessions. For planners who want to learn more about the system, ODOT says that presentations and/or training are available upon request by e-mailing tims@dot.state.oh.us. Videos are on ODOT’s youtube channel at http://goo.gl/52SHlU
