Leaking Gas Caps Cost Money, Cause Pollution

TMACOG and the City of Toledo Division of Environmental Services team up to find and replace leaky gas caps. The summer program shares information about how gasoline vapor contributes to low level ozone pollution and provides free replacements for any leaking caps.

Drivers can bring their passenger vehicles (cars, vans, light trucks) to any scheduled Gas Cap Testing and Replacement event. The vacuum test takes only a few minutes. Interns collect information on the year, make, and model of car and keep track of how many caps fail the test. Leaking caps are replaced at no cost on the spot. In previous years, the cars most likely to need new caps were older vehicles but even some new vehicles were leaking.
