TIP Public Meeting and Public Comment

National and State Bike Route Network
Taking Shape




Transportation planners across the country are coordinating efforts to designate roads and paths as bike routes to establish a national network that would enable long distance travel by bicycle. TMACOG is coordinating the project in northwest Ohio and working with planners in other parts of the state. Ohio’s move to establish a network of signed US and State routes will serve as a backbone for long-distance riders, while also connecting local residents to nearby communities. May is Bike Month

Get your bike out and get ready to explore northwest Ohio on two wheels. During Bike Month, TMACOG works with partners to sponsor bike rides, provide safety training, and educate cyclists and drivers about laws regarding cycling. TMACOG’s goal is to establish bicycling as a practical commuting option and to incorporate bicycles into street transportation safely and efficiently. Ambitious Project to Replace Blight with Beautiful, Useful Green Space

The TMACOG stormwater staff and a host of partners are joining the Lucas County Land Bank and neighborhood redevelopment advocates in an intensive effort to install rain gardens in a central Toledo neighborhood.

The Land Bank has a long-running program to remove blighted buildings and return property to the tax rolls. They plan to remove 2,500 blighted structures throughout the county by 2020. TMACOG and its partners are piggy backing on this work to help the Junction Avenue team implement their established neighborhood revitalization plan. WorkZone Safety and Distracted Driving

Distracted driving might be one reason why the traffic accident rate is inching up after years of decline. The National Security Council has declared April Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Put down the phone. Don’t eat while you drive. Demonstrate safe practices to children in your car; they will be drivers someday. And really, put down the phone.

April 3-7, 2017 is National Work Zone Awareness Week. This annual spring campaign is held at the start of construction season to encourage safe driving through highway work zones. Drivers are reminded to follow posted speed limits, be aware of changing merge zones and construction vehicles, and look out for the men and women working on the highways.

For Go Orange Day on April 5, roadway safety professionals will being wearing orange to show their support of work zone safety.

 

Area Townships Eligible for Funding for Warning Signs


The 2017 Township Sign Grant application cycle is now open and will run through Friday, June 9, 2017.

The program provides funds to improve signs on roads where accidents are more common. Better signs can warn of sharp turns in the road, fixed objects (such as bridge abutments), bike path crossings, and hidden drives. The qualifying townships for 2017 in northwest Ohio include:
