Update on a Year in Road Construction

We can measure progress in regional road construction by the reduced number of barrels, but a look at the dollars is also educational. In January of 2016, there was about $900 million in active construction underway in northwest Ohio. Nearly 12 months later, there is about $331 million still active. We can see that about $570 million dollars’ worth of construction was completed this year.

Completed in 2016:

I-75 widening to three lanes from the Village of North Baltimore to I-475 in Wood County will be open by the end of 2016.
I-75 reconstruction from Dorr St. to I-475 in downtown Toledo was finished.
The I-475 & US 23 interchange in Sylvania Township is complete.
I-475 & Central Ave. (US 20) single point urban interchange (SPUI) is complete.
Several I-475 bridges have been widened: over the Ohio Turnpike, Norfolk Southern Railroad, Angola Rd., and Wolf Creek.
The grade separation project on McCord Rd. is complete with underpass, sidewalks, and large roundabout.

Upcoming/Still under Construction:

The I-475 and I-75 project in the vicinity of the old Jeep plant (the “Jeep Split”) is on schedule for completion in the fall of 2018.
An I-475 & US 23 diverging diamond interchange (DDI) in Perrysburg is under construction, scheduled for completion in 2017. This is only the second interchange of its type in Ohio.
Reconstruction of I-75 from South Ave. and Dorr St. is slated to begin in 2017. This is a $150 million dollar project that includes the Anthony Wayne Trail Interchange.
