Water Quality
Agenda for Lake Erie

Members of TMACOG’s Water Quality Council and its committees have been working for several months on an Agenda for Lake Erie. That white paper is moving through the committee review process and will be available for public comment in March and April. The agenda will also be shared at public meetings for the 208 Plan during those months. Following public review, the plan is to have the Board of Trustees formally adopt the Agenda for Lake Erie as part of the 208 Plan at its June 20 more

New Permit-Public Comment Invited

Members of the Stormwater Coalition (SWC) got an early look at the new Ohio Construction General Permit language at their January meeting. John Mathews of the Ohio EPA Central Office and Lynette Hablitzel of the Ohio EPA Northwest Office made a presentation to the group as a follow-up to the early stakeholder input provided by SWC in December.

There is an existing permit for construction but it is set to expire on April 18. The new permit will replace the current one. Construction activities can cause erosion, disrupt streams and other surface water, and generate pollutants from oil, petroleum and other chemicals. The permit process assures that construction professionals are taking steps to protect the environment as they build and renovate. The Construction General Permit will be open for public comment in the next couple of months.

For more information about the new permit and opportunities to comment, contact Kari Gerwin at 419.241.9155, ext. 1103.
