April is Volunteer Month

Clear Water Clean Choices invites everyone to volunteer to protect the environment in April. Log on to the website, take a pledge, and join friends and neighbors in making a difference.

Party for the Planet at the Toledo Zoo. Saturday, April 21, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Part of the activities include a huge recycling effort, accepting materials from cell phones to lipstick tubes. See all the details here.
Join Green Team with the Partners for Clean Streams and work the Glass City Marathon (April 22). The Green Team collects debris at the marathon to keep trash from reaching waterways. Over the last two years the team has collected thousands of pounds of glass, cardboard, plastic water bottles, and cups.
Teachers are invited to use Clear Choices Clean Water in their classrooms. Those teachers already part of TMACOG’s Student Watershed Watch will find lots of new resources. Educators who want to know more can contact TMACOG Water Quality Planner Sara Guiher at 419.241.9155 ext. 1147.
Adopt a storm drain. During spring storms, choose a local storm drain and keep it free of litter and debris. This prevents flooding and keeps trash and excess nutrients out of waterways.
There are volunteer opportunities to plant trees, remove invasive species and much more at local park districts including Wood County Parks and Metroparks Toledo, Toledo-Lucas County Rain Garden Initiative, and Wild Ones Oak Openings Region Chapter.

Take a pledge on the website and you will learn about more opportunities to volunteer.
