TMACOG Position on Gas Tax Increase

TMACOG leadership strongly supports Governor DeWine’s proposal to increase the gas tax. We encourage our members to contact area legislators to urge them to vote to increase this user fee that will ensure a safe and viable transportation system in our region of the state.

TMACOG is part of the Fix Our Roads (FOR) Ohio coalition that supports improving transportation funding. See their case statement here.

TMACOG has for years advocated for increased funding for area transportation projects and it is part of TMACOG’s Transportation Legislative Agenda.
The gas tax in Ohio has not been raised since 2005. It was raised two cents each year in 2003, 2004.
The federal gas tax has not been raised since the 1990’s.
Costs for road and bridge projects since that time have increased substantially and inflation has eroded buying power, drastically reducing our area’s ability to keep up with the need.
