What is the Conference on Freight?
The Ohio Conference on Freight brings together professionals from all modes of transportation to focus on the movement of goods through Ohio and the Great Lakes region. Over 200 attendees from 14 states and provinces come to share information and dialogue and learn about new developments in rail, ground, air, and sea transportation . The ongoing support of many key partners has made it possible to develop and implement this statewide conference.
  
What will the Conference be Like This Year?
The fourth annual Ohio Conference on Freight has been expanded to two full days to accommodate two morning plenary sessions; two luncheon keynote presentations; 19 workshops; and a tour of the National Gateway Northwest Ohio Intermodal Terminal. Presenters will include representatives from state and federal agencies and universities, along with business and economic development professionals.
Who Should Attend?
If you are connected to the freight industry in any way, the Ohio Conference on Freight is for you. Transportation planners, representatives of trucking and shipping companies, engineers, elected officials, economic developers, representatives of the construction industry, and import/export firms will contribute to and benefit from this fourth annual conference. Professional engineers who attend the 2010 Ohio Conference on Freight can receive Continuing Professional Development credit.
Certified Planners who attend workshops at the 2010 Ohio Conference on Freight may be eligible for Certification Maintenance (CM) credits. CM credit has been applied for and is expected.
Accommodations
A special conference rate is available at the Hilton Hotel Toledo and Dana Conference Center. Also, prevailing government state and federal rates will be honored if the guest indicates government employment upon registration and provides a government ID upon arrival.

2010 Conference Features

Jolene M. Molitoris
Director, Ohio Department of Transportation
Under Director Molitoris’ leadership, ODOT is delivering on time and on budget the largest construction program in Ohio history - 30 percent larger than at any other time - with personnel levels at a 30-year low. Bolstered by federal stimulus funds, these historic investments are being made in every region of the state and in every major mode of Ohio’s multi-modal transportation system. Director Molitoris will share how the lessons learned from the Recovery Act have made working faster, more collaboratively, and multi-modally the norm at ODOT.

Orlando Gotay
Deputy Director, Maritime Administration,
U.S. Department of Transportation
Orlando Gotay was sworn in as Deputy Maritime Administrator on June 28, 2010 and serves as the agency’s Chief Operating Officer. In March 2010, he served as head of a United States delegation to the United Nations-sponsored Contact Group on Piracy off the Coast of Somalia. Prior to service in the Obama Administration, Mr. Gotay was Counselor to the Mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was the first General Manager of the San Juan Port Commission, a municipal entity created in 2007. Mr. Gotay was an officer in the U.S. Navy. He is a 1987 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. He is also a member of the California bar and is licensed to practice before the U.S. Tax Court, and federal courts in the districts of Northern California and Puerto Rico.

Jack Basso
Director of Program Finance and Management, AASHTO
Peter J. “Jack” Basso oversees the management of a $60 million nonprofit organization representing the interests of state departments of transportation. He develops new member services, and markets current technical services provided for AASHTO members. Mr. Basso works closely with Congressional staff and other associations that have mutual interests in transportation financing issues. He is a nationally recognized expert on transportation finance.

Stuart Hoffman
Senior Vice President and Chief Economist
the PNC Financial Services Group
Stuart G. Hoffman is senior vice president and chief economist for the PNC Financial Services Group and serves as the principal spokesperson on all economic issues for PNC. Mr. Hoffman was recognized as the most accurate forecaster for 2004 by BusinessWeek and the second most accurate economic and interest rate forecaster for 2006 by USA Today. In addition, he was named one of the top forecasters in the Wall StreetJournal economic survey covering the 1988-2009 period. Mr. Hoffman will provide his analysis of the economic forecast for the Midwest and how it may impact freight and the movement of agricultural products.
Tour of the National Gateway Northwest Ohio Intermodal Terminal
The Northwest Ohio Intermodal Terminal in North Baltimore, Ohio is a linchpin for the National Gateway. This project is to be in full operation by 2011 and is expected to employ more than 200 people with the potential for more than 2,600 jobs as related businesses grow around the facility. The North Baltimore terminal has been designed for optimum efficiency, using state of the art technology and equipment including five newly arrived wide span cranes manufactured by Hans Kuenz GmbH.
